This reaction seems stirred for the tidings he has been told. It may be that Macbeth had the confidence of a king; the ambition to be King had himself on the analogous high ground as Duncan, but did not want to be traitorous towards his king and country. Only when he was told about his future position as King, did, he think of the possibilities, whether it would be fate or if he would need to speed up the process.
