In the science apologue classic Fahrenheit 451 written by the renowned write Ray Bradbury, many themes are displayed throughout the novel. The book depicts a story about a futuristic world that forbids slew from reading. The main character Montag is a fireman. In the future a firefighter’s job was not to extinguish fires, exactly if to actually start them. They wanted all books in organism to be burnt, to keep the public from reading and gaining knowledge to resurrect their own thoughts. All the firemen wear the number 451 on their uniforms because that is the temperature at which {draw:frame} book paper burns. At first, Montag takes grand pleasure in his profession. However, Montag soon begins to question the value of his playact and in turn, his life.
One of the major theme’s in Fahrenheit 451 is the role of entertainment. The people of Montag’s world spend a penny no interest in world issues or eventide their own families. They have no values and are only concerned with pleasing themselves. The people fear the thought of having knowledge, which leads them to cipher on other’s to think for them. Since they are not thinking for themselves, they watch television to occupy their time.
The people do not interact with one another in meaningful ways and they certainly do not know the dead on tar lay down purpose of life. This causes violence, depression, and even suicide attempts to occur. Mildred spends all of her time ceremonial television or listening to the radio. Mildred barely even speaks to her preserve: “She was an expert at lip reading from ten old age of apprenticeship at Seashell ear thimbles” (Bradbury 18; pt 1). One good afternoon Montag tries making conversation with his wife and it was clear that she was not evoke in anything, but her television.
