the States is a book written by jean Baudrillard, a French philosopher of postmodernism. Mr. Baudrillard wrote this book in lieu of the travels he made to the United States. He takes the reader to San Antonio, Salt Lake City, depositary Valley, the Grand Canyon, New York, and Las Angeles by way of his memories and journals. As Baudrillard tries to find out the States from an unbiased, outsiders viewpoint, he often parallels America with the desert and speed. In doing so, he develops a strong mind that America is a hyperreality because it is a utopia which has behaved from the very beginning as though it were already achieved (Baudrillard 28). A major theme in Baudrillards novel is the lack of originality in modern society. America is such a place where its people do non experience anything original. The dreams of becoming a successful man or woman, philosophies, themes in novels and plays and art, heroes and heroines, architecture, catch phrases, etc…everything has been done before. The lack of originality puts America stuck in the hyperreal, leaving all roots behind.
From the time of birth until the daytime a person dies, criminaliseship is incorporated into daily life. With age, the microbe of censorship changes, and eventually, knowledge acquired becomes tainted.



As an infant, the guardians responsibility is basically to censor the child from harmful things such as loud noises or hot milk or cold weather. Seeing parents invariably smile, caress, and use baby-talk around their newborn is an example of purposely omitting bitter realities, all in an effort to protect the child. Moving on to grade school, the teachers are the main providers of information, which goes hand-in-hand with censoring. Limitations and boundaries are set by the school system on what curriculum will be taught. As an example, evolution can be taught in the classroom, trance teaching creationism is not acceptable.
