Gender in Persian letters

Throughout Montesquieus book, Persian Letters, there ar numerous topics that ar explored and discussed as Usbeck and Rica travel to completely new experiences. integrity of the topics that is seen throughout is the placement of women in Persian society compared to the polar incidents that Usbeck and Rica encounter. Mainly looking at how Usbeck treats his wives and how they respond and treat him and his descriptions of all told that he is able to see among his travels, and how at times it take cares as though he is giving examples of the hardships that rulers have to endure because of the length and inability to have direct contact on what is passage on with the people.
Usbeck has his 5 different wives that he communicates with during his travels and also talks with his head black eunuch that he had left in charge. At the start of the book it seems as though all of his wives have respect for him that they will not betray him in anyone from the ones that we hear from. This just seems very odd for the fact that even though women arent thought of as a lot for society they are still higher on the chain that slaves would be, yet a slave holds all their position.
