As Definitive as a Statement
To transcribe suasion into words is to movement to convey the beauty of witnessing a sundown with a paintbrush and a palate of ten colors. Regardless of esthetic talent (in both writing and painting), it is futile to try and accurately convey the thoughts and emotions of the individual when the only authority is through such constricting filters. In the case of the artist, the lack of colors prevents him from on the whole replicating the sunset he has witnessed. There is no way for him to delegate the viewer the color he sees between the bursts of magenta and rose periwinkle just as for the writer there is no way to provoke the exact image of this color in his ref’s mind as long as it ashes un-named. Both ar at the mercy and subjectivity of the filters they are operating through.
In “And Then One Day…” whoremonger Barth illustrates his sagaciousness of this subjectivity through the third person autobiographic stories of Elizabeth. As a writer Elizabeth has dedicated her professional life history to the conveyance of her thoughts through writing.



Barth evermore reminds us that she fully understands the futility of accurate thought conveyance saying, “She has understood all along, more or less, that neither her life nor her father’s nor an soul else’s is a storywhile at the same time wryly aftermath and reviewing hers as if it were.”( ). This statement viewed through my own filters is Barth’s guarantee to convey his acknowledgement of the disparity between actuality and any attempt to convey actuality through inadequate yet necessary filters (i.e.: words, paintings music, dancing or any other expression of thought).
