After a massive rockslide crushed houses and buried mess beneath the resulting ruble, hundreds in Cairo noneffervescent live in fear. As an aftermath of the tragedy, residents of Duweiqa search in protest for who is to be held responsible for the deaths of their loved ones and the loss of their homes. While there is heavy(p) controversy about who is entirely responsible for this tragedy, the officials in shudder of housing, the victims of the tragedy, and the authorities comport all been blamed. The Duweiqa tragedy exposes the corruption of the government and of the people themselves. The unfortunate tragedy sheds light on what Egypt rattling values as important. The residents of Duweiqa believe that the cause of the Muqattam Hills tragedy is the government. The residents have every right to blame the government because they complained and “told the authorities much than a year ago that large cracks had formed” (Shenker). In response to this complaint, which clearly expressed concern, the government did nothing and the citizens were still living in danger of a rockslide; their roles went unheard. But these vile citizens were not the only ones whose voices went unheard. Experts in the field of geology, earthquakes, and natural disasters were “ exemplar of further landslides and potential disasters”, wrote Adam Makary in an article for Al-Jazeera.



The government is the only one to blame for ignoring these warning signs and the peoples’ complaints, because the media attempted to voice the residents’ concerns. Even if the government did not believe that such a tragedy could occur, they could have looked into the history of rockslides in Cairo, and seen that there be many worth noting. An Associated Press writer stated that “ alike disasters happened in 1994 and 2002” (“Egypt Rock Slide”). But these two tragedies are part of a series which date back to 1964.
